Inspired by the macabre aesthetic of the historical Plague Doctor, and the theatrical performance of the Montol Guild, The Splendid League of Physicians, I have designed a number of pieces based on randomly picked tarot cards.
This one depicts the Five of Blades, which would translate to the Five of Swords. In this scene, the rats are running riot in a town which is shutting down. Two other physicians can be seen leaving the town, as they sadly give up on an apparently losing battle, casting some of their tools of their trade, bladed instruments all, two of which lay on the floor. A barber physician, however has taken their cast off tools, but will his continuation in a dying cause be successful? Clouds are gathering on the horizon, indication, perhaps not.
