Autumn is my favourite season and I try to get out to enjoy as much of it as possible. There is a park near me that always has such interesting fungi growing on old tree stumps and amongst the fallen leaves with moss cushioning everything. I love to photograph what I can and turn it into art by drawing, painting or embroidering it all.

Bright autumn days, golden light, moss and mushrooms growing in the damp undergrowth and leaves with all of the beauty of autumn crunching underfoot as more flutter slowly to the ground. That's my favourite kind of day and the inspiration behind this piece of embroidery.
The fabric is up-cycled natural linen with brown houndstooth cotton at the bottom with a strip of cream lace ribbon overlaid at the join. Three mushrooms spring out of the moss which has been embroidered using lots and lots of french knots to give the texture of moss and embroidered in three shades of green to add depth. The mushrooms are a dark cream colour with brown detailing around the cap and the gills of the mushroom. Sycamore leaves in autumnal colours are swirling around at the top of the design.
This embroidered work has been sewn up into a mini clutch purse so it's pretty and practical too. The back of the purse is up-cycled linen with a cluster of autumn leaves at the top and my label at the bottom. I have lined the purse with a red cotton with a stylised flower print. The purse has been securely glued into an antique brass coloured metal kisslock frame which compliments the autumn theme. I have given the mini clutch purse a nice, wide flat base so the purse is surprisingly roomy inside.
All of my items are one of a kind. Don't hang art on the wall, take it with you!
