This is a totally unique piece of textile art. The fabric was dyed using a variety of dried beans that were stitched into cotton. This was then dyed using a combination of water made from rusty nails and some plant dye. It sounds strange and if you take a look at the photo's it should make more sense.

The fabric was dried and then quilted using free machine embroidery to create tactile ammonite fossils that pick up the colours taken from the fabric dying.

The size of the wall hanging is 37cm x 37cm (about 15 x 15") The quilt comes with a wooden dowel ready to hang all you need is a nail. This is totally unique and can never be repeated as I would never be able to get the dying techniques to give the same result again.

It is an exciting and very different piece, that can be given as a gift or kept for yourself. The colours are sandy orange with deeper orange/browns and occasional greens where the fabric has taken the plant dye. A really interesting piece.

I love fossils and the amazing patterns created in stone of things that were living. I wanted to create a fossil quilt for a long time, and playing around with dyes from natural materials - in this instance beans it gave me the fabric I wanted to create a quilt of ammonites.

This is totally unique, I don't believe I could re-create the techniques I used here to dye fabric like this again.
