Full description

These oblong cufflinks feature fordite which has been bezel set in sterling silver and finished with swivel backs for ease of use. The fordite has a striking bullseye pattern of coloured and sparkly bands on a white base.

Fordite is layer upon layer of cured car paint that built up in the old spray booths, the car bodies would be rested on rails when they were painted and with each car another layer of paint would be added. In time this would need to be removed and found its way to lapidarists and jewellers. You can see the remnants of the rough that I cut the cabs from in the final photo, I haven't yet managed to pin point a car brand that this material came from as the colours (silver, red, navy, white, black) are a bit generic, the number of colours and sparkles suggests that this material is from one of the american plants the 90's.

Measure 17mm by 14mm on the front and have a standard swivel back. Comes gift boxed with a blurb about fordite. My OH has been desk testing his fordite cufflinks for years and has yet to scratch them - they have even been through the wash but I don't recommend this - so it is very durable.
