Why not swap those plastic bags for a beautiful Wicker Basket. I love shopping with a wicker basket, it makes my life so much simpler when I am just popping into the shops for a few bits. My basket completely eradicates the need for a bag (I always have a tote handy in case I get carried away & buy a few more bits than I expected) and it gives me such a good feeling to refuse to use the plastic shopping baskets provided by supermarkets.
