This large irregular triangle shaped pendant features a sizable cabochon of fordite bezel set in sterling silver. The open back setting means that the pendant is reversible and can be worn either way round to show off the differing patterns. The fordite has a swirly pattern in predominately oranges, yellows and white on one side and a stripy pattern on the reverse with more white and grey in it. Fordite is many layers of paint that built up in the old manual spray booths and based on the colours and thickness of the bands in this material I believe it came from a commercial vehicle paint shop, probably in Dagenham, in the 70's. Since the changes to the way vehicles are painted in the mid 80's this material is becoming increasing difficult to source (especially the stuff from British spray booths). I cut and polish this material myself (see the final photo for the rough slab that this piece came from which obviously formed round a pipe), it takes 3 grades of file, 6 of polish paper and plenty of elbow grease but it comes up with a lovely deep sheen. I have more of this rough if you want a different shape pendant or other pieces to coordinate with it just drop me a message and I'll see what I can do.
Measures approx 42mm from top to bottom excluding the bail and 25mm across the widest point. Comes with a sterling silver chain but could easily be swapped to a different one. If you would rather have it on leather thong then drop me a message.
Comes gift boxed.
