Full description
This hand-stitched patchwork bag is finished with a hand-embroidered button and hand-made cord. Vintage table linens, lace and printed cottons are combined with toning fabrics, hand embroidery and crocheted edging resulting in a very special design.
Scraps of embroidered vintage linen and printed fabric were hand stitched to a felt backing. Suffolk puff flowers, and other lace trimmings were arranged to enhance the design. Vintage lace trims were applied to the edges of some of the patches and stitched in place. The work was then embellished with hand embroidery.
The back panel of the bag is a white stripes on beige printed cotton fabric, backed with felt. The sides of the bag are blanket-stitched securely with ivory crochet cotton and a crocheted picot edging worked into the seem. The lining of the bag is cut from gold and burgundy cotton fabric, backed with iron-on interfacing and assembled by machine stitching. The lining is hand stitched into the bag and folded over to form the binding to the top of both front and back panels. The strap is a length of ivory, hand-made, cotton cord produced specifically to match this bag. The bag closes with a hand stitched ivory, cotton loop over a hand embroidered, linen covered button finished with a picot crochet trim.
