My ceramics and illustration work is inspired by all things weird and wonderful in nature. Mushrooms fascinate me as they are such alien creatures. They never get boring to make, as they come in so many varieties.
I was just falling asleep one night, and for some reason I had mushrooms on the brain! I was imaging creating one out of porcelain, moulding the shape and cutting through the clay to make beautiful folds. I then realised an up-turned mushroom would be the perfect shape for a ring holder / jewellery dish! I love the fusion of creating ornamental ceramics that also have a function.

Full description
'Rosy Bonnet Mushroom' a unique, decorative sculpture, which is also useable as a ring dish / jewellery bowl.
This artwork was hand sculpted from porcelain and stoneware fired, each gill was hand carved to create the realistic detail. The base of the stalk has been decorated with real silver lustre dots. The mushroom sits upturned on it's cap so the underneath is visible, and to allow it to be used as a ring / jewellery dish. Some surfaces are decorated with iron oxide and pink glaze, whilst others are left bare to contrast beautifully in texture.
The piece is made from solid porcelain (it is not hollow inside) to closer resemble a real mushroom. This also means it's sturdy and stable.
The beautiful silver jewellery pictured is by Amelia Stone (www.ameliastone.co.uk).
Please note that there are three small splits in the underside of the mushroom where some air has escaped in the kiln. I have filled this with white air drying clay. It is not very noticeable and only one is ever so slightly visible if the mushroom is sitting on it's cap. I have priced it accordingly to account for the minor flaws. If you have any concerns please send me a Folksy message and I can send you some close up pictures of these areas.
The mushroom is not intended to stand on it's stalk, or to be an out door ornament. If the mushroom gets dirty please polish gently with a warm soapy cloth.
