We need warmth and shelter to live, but so often we damage the habitats of other creatures (and our own!) to make the fuel to create that warmth. I was thinking about this last year when using the usual, stinky petroleum based firelighters from the local shop. That's when I decided to make them! These are made by me, from scrap materials. They are from otherwise unwanted materials and contain no petroleum.

Full description

Handmade from recycled and left-over materials, a natural and eco-sensitive firelighter for campfires, open fires, stoves and barbecues. They're not the prettiest thing in my shop, but probably the most useful on a cold night!

I have been making and using these on our stove at home with pleasing results. Each firelighter is made using recycled egg boxes, left over natural soy wax from my candle-making, wick trimmings, dried lavender and other petals from my garden, and wood shavings from my fathers wood-turning activities! The wax is a mix of over-melts (when I make more than I need!) or damaged candles and wax melts (when I'm clumsy at craft fairs!), so these do have a light scent, but not easy to describe. Often floral or spicy, but each batch is different so that will have to be a surprise. Due to the fragrances in the wax, these should not be used by persons with perfume sensitivity as the fragrances could cause allergic reactions in those afflicted.

This listing is for 25 firelighters. If you've not tried our firelighters before, sample packs are available in my shop. Each firelighter measures around an inch.

The usual warnings apply! Always take care when lighting your firelighter and continue to watch your fire as it ignites to ensure it remains under control. For more info visit my blog: http://eco-sensitivehome.blogspot.co.uk/2015/09/eco-friendly-firelighters-how-to-use.html
