Enamelling lends itself well to stencil design techniques and I love to use them. Working with the dry powders makes it possible to create mist effects and the thought of this associated with the simplicity but effectiveness of the boat blank shape suggested the possibility of a a misty sea-scape. The boat shape provided a reverse stencil; I used it to keep powders off the base while the background was made then infilled the resulting space.
