I started making birthstone stars and straight away someone said they wanted butterflies - so this is one in a collection of Birthstone Butterflies, for each month / birthstone colour.
January=garnet
February=amethyst
March=aquamarine
April=diamond
May=emerald
June=pearl
July=ruby
August=peridot (green)
September=sapphire
October=opal
November=topaz
December=turquoise

I've sold this one but will be making another ASAP. Please shout if you want one and I'll get one ready for you.
A stained glass suncatcher made using the Tiffany copper foil technique.
A butterfly made from iridised deep red glass, garnet being the UK birthstone colour for January. The other sections of the butterfly are iridised textured clear glass to give it extra shimmer.
I've made the littlegarnet coloured head in my hotpot kiln and added tiny dichroic chips for eyes.
I'm really pleased with this new 2014 design of butterfly and also with the idea of making one for each month / birthstone.
This will make a wonderful present for yourself or for someone you love.
It looks absolutely beautiful hanging in the window where it catches the light and would make a lovely ornament for any room.
This also makes a super 'bird-scarer' as it will help to stop birds flying into windows.
The suncatcher hangs from a little chain which is securely attached to the top of the butterfly, to its quirky curls.
This item is absolutely individual. I never make two pieces exactly the same, I always use slightly different colours and textures of glass.
It is 12cm wide and 9cm tall.
The 4th photo shows the 3 other Birthstone butterflies - October, November and December.
The 5th photo shows a birthstone colour chart in case you want a different month. If so please contact me and i will make one for you in the appropriate colour.
