I decided on a modern off-centre design for this unique one off quilt - using two long panels of the Princess and the Pea fabric to frame a stack of prints looking just like a tower of mattresses.
Although the piecing and fabric choices give a modern feel, I wanted this quilt to look timeless. I machine quilted the circles close together and then washed and lightly tumble dried it to create a lovely wrinkled antique look with defined quilting ridges that are gorgeous to touch.

Princess and the Pea - a stunning handmade patchwork quilt or playmat designed by me in gorgeous shades of pink, lilac, aqua and orange.
A fantastic gift for a new baby - perfect for snuggle time, nap time, play time and stroller walks. But the strong colour combination and prints in this quilt mean she will continue to love it as she grows older - it will make a great feature on her bed and is so soft and warm for cuddling up with a good book.
Size - 35 inches by 42 inches / 88 cm by 106 cm.
The front of the quilt combines Princess and the Pea fabrics from the Quiet Time collection by Michael Miller with prints and plains from other quality fabric ranges. For the back of the quilt, I used a cosy cotton flannel in a tiny green and white check that has a gorgeous texture when quilted.
I machine quilted concentric circles to give a modern and yet still traditional quilted look and bound it in double folded pink cotton fabric stitched to the front, folded over and hand stitched to the reverse - providing a long lasting edge to this heirloom quality quilt.
For the wadding I chose Dream Puff which is perfect for childrens' quilts - light, breathable, and quick drying.
Care - machine wash at medium temperatures and gently tumble on low heat or dry flat. Pull into shape when damp and avoid using a hot steam iron.
Lovingly made in Wales by me to my own design using quality materials, great craftsmanship and much attention to detail.
