Roasting garlic makes it soft, spreadable and makes it taste mild yet flavourful. It is a tasty addition to any meal, appetizer or even just as a snack.
Spread roasted garlic on bread or crackers, mash into your mashed potato ( heavenly ) stir through cooked vegetables and sauces, spread over meats or eat with a fork straight from the clove.
Preheat the oven to 400°F. Peel away the outer layers of the garlic bulb skin, leaving the skins of the individual cloves intact. Using a knife, cut off 1/4 to a 1/2 inch of the top of cloves, exposing the individual cloves of garlic. Place the garlic head on the dish and drizzle a couple teaspoons of olive oil over the top, Cover with the domed lid.. Bake at 400°F for 30-35 minutes, or until the cloves feel soft when pressed.
I threw this dish on my pottery wheel using strong white stoneware clay and have finished it in a combination of dark chocolate brown and runny green reactive glazes.
The flat top of the lid on this one means it can be used as a little bowl too.
