Item details

A shoal of characterful mackerel make their way across a shiny blue green sea. A quality print from my original textile art; lush layered mixed media with detailed machine embroidery. Gloss print to capture the shine of the original textile work. Print comes complete with nice wide mount, back board and protective sleeve. Outside of mount measure 12x10 inches (landscape orientation), a standard frame size. Just one in a series of my shimmering fish prints to collect.

I was inspired by the mackerel swimming back home with us on the turning tide as I returned, joyful and relieved from my first ever sea kayak lesson! My aim with the first of my popular Mackerel series was to capture their movement through the water and their iridescence as they broke the surface. I have been obsessed ever since. Something about these fish has also caught the imagination of everyone who has come into my studio gallery. In mackerel season its impossible to walk the coves around my home in St Agnes without coming across someone just coming back with some fresh mackerel for the BBQ or fishmongers. I loved doing detailed studies in watercolour to observe their colours and unique patterning.
