Small but beautifully formed, this bud vase was hand thrown on the wheel and once leather-hard, a coarse clay texture was added to the surface. The piece was then dipped in another clay slip containing metal oxides and fired in a wood kiln to around 1260 degrees centigrade. It was placed very close to the firebox, where wood ash has melted onto the surface, but also piled up as embers around the base, bleaching the underside interesting shades of off-white .
Measures approx. 3 inches wide and 2.25 inches tall. The piece is fully waterproof so could be used for displaying fresh flowers. Mark Smalley's personal symbol is impressed to the underside.
POstage and packing for this item will be at a fixed cost of £2.90.
