Full description
This is my second painting of a stag, and with this one I wanted to move away from a more stylised approach and capture something a little quieter and more natural. The stag's head emerges gently from the undergrowth, partially hidden, with just enough light catching the details to bring him forward.
Painted in acrylics, the tones are kept fairly true to life, with subtle highlights of copper and gold running through the piece. These catch the light differently depending on where you're standing, adding a bit of warmth and depth without taking away from the calm, grounded feel of the painting.
It's one of those pieces that evolved as I worked on it, finding its own balance between realism and atmosphere.
