Over the last year, life changed considerably. With quieter roads and people suddenly spending more time at home, birdsong seemed to fill the air everywhere. My studio is in the garden, with bird feeders just outside the windows, and during lockdown I found comfort in painting my companions in isolation. There is something deeply reassuring in nature continuing on, oblivious to strange times, bringing bursts of colour and life each day.
This piece celebrates the stunning beauty of the kingfisher, whose striking metallic blue and vibrant orange plumage makes it one of our most captivating birds. Their swift, swooping flight and remarkable precision as they dive for fish make them extraordinary hunters. With sharp focus and perfect timing, they wait patiently on overhanging branches above the water before striking with incredible accuracy.
In this painting, a pair of kingfishers perch together, poised and watchful as they await their prey. You may imagine the conversation between them as they sit side by side.
The painting can be purchased framed or unframed. All frames are custom made to order by Frames Express once a painting is sold, allowing me to offer flexibility to collectors. Framing usually takes a few days before I carefully prepare the work for posting.
Painted during the lockdown period, this piece reflects the peace, companionship, and quiet beauty found in nature during uncertain times.
