"This painting began with a memory of standing on tiptoes at the local newsagent's counter, clutching a few coins and facing the impossible task of choosing just one treat.
I wanted to capture that specific feeling of 'pure potential' you get from a full glass sweet jar—the bright crinkle of a Refresher wrapper, the pastel chalkiness of a Fizzer, and the iconic pink hearts that we all used to send 'secret' messages to our friends.
I chose watercolor for this piece because its transparency mimics the way light hits glass. The ink details were added to bring back the crispness of those vintage labels we know so well. For me, 'Love Lace Sweets' isn't just about the sugar; it’s about a simpler time when the biggest decision of the day was how to spend your pocket money.
I painted this to be a 'forever jar'—a splash of color for your kitchen that never runs out and always brings a little bit of childhood joy into the room."
