The Whittlesea Straw Bear festival has been running in Peterborough since at least 1882 and has had many guises in that time! Revived in 1980, the festival is now a colourful weekend of parades and Morris dancing, celebrating the New Year and Plough Monday. The dancing Bear himself is paraded through the streets, with his little junior bears and musicians. They're so adorable, but if you want to go and see him next year make sure you go on the Saturday. If you go Sunday they'll have already burned him!

Full description
An earthenware decorative ceramic figurine featuring the Whittlesea Straw Bear, a straw folklore character from Peterborough, Cambridgeshire. The bears are glazed with a beautiful glossy wheat colour glaze and are tied up with string!
Each bear is hand-made so they are similar but unique.
Size is approx. 14cm tall.
I AM AN EARTHENWARE CREATION - that means that although I am beautiful and strong, I should ideally spend my life indoors. I can be put outside during warmer, dry weather but please take me back inside when it gets wet and cold so that the frost and damp don't cause me to crack.
