The Mari Lwyd (meaning Grey Mare) is a wassailing custom from Wales. With her horse skull, sheet clothing and ribbons she is a formidable sight at New Year, when she will travel the streets knocking on doors. Will you be brave enough to resist the Mari's song and refuse her entry or will you invite her in with your own song and feed her with food and beer? The Mari has become such a popular figure in modern folk tradition, not just in Wales but in so many new year celebrations throughout the country.

Full description
A white earthenware decorative hanging plaque featuring the Mari Lywd of Welsh folklore. Mari is glossy glazed with beautiful colourful ribbons and rosette, and a crackle finish for an authentic skull effect! She has bells of real 24k gold lustre.
Mari has a wire hanger on the back for wall mounting. Each of these are hand-made so they are similar but unique.
Size is approx. 20cm tall.
I AM AN EARTHENWARE CREATION - that means that although I am beautiful and strong, I should ideally spend my life indoors. I can be put outside during warmer, dry weather but please take me back inside when it gets wet and cold so that the frost and damp don't cause me to crack.
