This is the first reduction print that I ever tried.
For those who don't know, to create a reduction lino print you first carve away the areas you want to remain white. Then you print your lightest colour, which was yellow in this case.
Then you carve away everything you want to remain yellow, then print the next lightest colour, red in this case, over the top of the previous yellow layer.
You then repeat until all layers are complete.
The nature of this kind of printing means that for every layer, you carve away more lino until you reach the final layer. Now you can't ever use the lino block again, except for the last layer as it has all been carved away.
Any mistakes you make mean you have to redesign the print so it either works with the mistake or worse still, you have ruined the print and have to start the whole process again, carving, printing and all.
For this reason I made a 'fun sized' print which I was relieved looks amazing wherver you decide to place it.

An original, framed, fun size, limited edition, colour, reduction lino print of a vintage VW Campervan Split Screen with LOVE in graffiti style on the side of the van.

After being carefully hand carved using professional linoleum cutting tools, Rubber Based Archival Ink is then spread over the linoleum with a Japanese soft rubber brayer (roller). Japanese Awagami Washi Hosho Select paper, which is made from sustainable materials, is then placed on top of the linoleum before pressure is applied using a press to evenly distribute the ink.
As this is a reduction lino cut print, more lino is cut away for every layer/colour that is printed, until there is not much lino left. This means that this is definitely a one of a kind print as it is impossible to reprint once the edition is complete.
Once it is dry, it is framed, ready to order.
Due to this process, some small variations may occur, which makes each print truly unique.
The rubber ink, as well as the paper, have great archival properties and the ink sits so well on the paper.
The print will be packaged, wrapped in tissue paper and bubble wrap, before being placed into a cardboard box, to protect from damage.
