Since I got screen sensitive chronic migraine in 2019, I had been looking for ideas to make detailed lino prints. Essentially I needed an excuse to keep me away from screens and the more detailed the better and longer it would take to carve.
After taking a trip to High Force waterfall in Middleton in Teesdale, we had to take a diversion from the usual route due to covid restrictions. The new route took us through a lovely forest trail. I took a few photos at the scene and I knew straight away that this would fit the detailed brief and look quite striking. It actually took me 2 months to cut out all of the white space you can see between the branches.

This limited edition lino print took a full 2 months to carve the 2nd layer alone!
A unique, 5 layer, limited edition, linoprint of a forest near High Force waterfall in Middleton in Teesdale.
3 different colours:
Limited Edition of 14 (original print),
Limited edition of 6 (red)
Limited edition of 3 (brown)
After being carefully hand carved using professional linoleum cutting tools, traditional oil based relief ink is then spread over the linoleum with a Japanese soft rubber brayer (roller). Japanese Awagami Washi Hosho Select paper, which is made from sustainable materials, is then placed on top of the linoleum before pressure is applied using a press to evenly distribute the ink.
As this is a reduction linocut print, more lino is cut away for every layer/colour that is printed, until there is not much lino left for the final layer. This means that this is definitely a one of a kind print as it is impossible to reprint once the edition is complete.
Due to this process, some small variations may occur, which makes each print truly unique.
The oil based ink, as well as the paper, have great archival properties and the ink sits so well on the paper.
All of my lino prints come with free signed for shipping.
