This piece, which I call "The Woodland Guardians," wasn't just carved; it was revealed. I found the original wood on a crisp autumn walk in an ancient, moss-covered copse. Even before I started carving, I felt an incredible energy in the log—it felt like it was watching me.
As I began to work, two faces began to emerge from the grain:
The Elder Guardian (Larger Face) represents the ancient, quiet wisdom of the trees, watching over the forest for centuries.
The Younger Spirit (Smaller Face) is playful and grounded, the spirit of the immediate woods, full of mischief and life.

The Woodland Guardians – Hand-Carved Wooden Candle Holder (42 cm)
This unique piece of folk art stands at 42 cm and is hand-carved from naturally fallen wood collected during an autumn woodland walk. The natural shapes of the grain inspired the two faces that appear in the sculpture, giving it a distinctive character and presence.
Design
The carving features:
A larger, elder-style face, inspired by the timeless feel of old woodland.
A smaller, youthful face, reflecting the lighter, playful side of nature.
Both forms emerged naturally from the patterns in the wood, making this a truly one-of-a-kind piece.
Finish
The sculpture is treated with pure natural beeswax, giving it:

a gentle, natural scent
protection while keeping the wood’s texture and markings visible
At the top sits a solid wooden candle holder platform, designed to hold a standard pillar candle securely.
