I love Hopper's use of light and shadow to create a mood and a particular feeling within his work. The figure gives a feeling of being alone, deep in thought whilst reading, however the viewer is present. We don't know where the girl is travelling to or from, there is a bridge out of the window which could indicate crossing's to a new place, a new start.

Full description
This is a master study, painted freehand in oil on wood panel. I have not tried to recreate the original, painting freehand in layers without a sketch. I was really focusing on the light and shadow to create a mood. I have also left out some elements, like the light above the figure. Size unframed 16 x 12 inch (40x30cm). Supplied framed in a silver square frame.
