I've always thought of myself as a visual rather than a verbal artist, but one night in 2019 I dreamed the bare bones of three poems and arose early to write them down. Since then, they've kept coming.
I am simultaneously a bit sorry to bring yet another amateur poetry book into the world but I am also proud to say that a few people actually find some my verse moving and/or delightful.

Full description

Self-Published, May 2022

Paperback, 100 pages, 203mm x 127mm

Assembled mainly for family and friends, I (Julien Lesage) call this book ‘a motley, mongrel scrapbook of versified thoughts: the closest thing I write to a diary, a record of the things I care about.’ I am the author, designer and publisher. I have placed it on Folksy because a few people have asked me for an easy way to buy copies.

Its title refers to a central poem in the book that considers the value and limitations of neurodiversity diagnoses and the joys and challenges of bringing up an autistic daughter. Other subjects include etymology, swearing, coronavirus, phishing, Extinction Rebellion, cats, death, and the miracle of consciousness.

The style is at times, light and humorous, at other times prose-y and discursive. Very occasionally, you may even spot a rhyme. If you know me, this will give you a clue as to what goes on in my head and heart. I don’t know what others will make of it, but I hope 'it makes your soul hum.'
