I took the photograph I used as reference for this painting in a dock in Kerteminde, Denmark. It was completely by chance that this duck started to shake as I took the photo, creating a very unique image that I just knew I had to paint when I got back home. To create texture in the water of my painting, I added tissue paper inspired by artist Ian Murphy, which when sanded down makes a rough surface. I later highlighted this with white oil pastel to portray the effect of the splashing water. This piece was all about capturing the characterful movement from the still photograph.
