The girl is eating hibiscus flowers, common flowers in eastern India where I’m from - but there's nothing common about hibiscus. Tucked in the hair of aunties and divas, offered to the gods, trembling with life in the monsoons. Best stuffed in large mouthfuls.

Full description
This is an A5 drawing of a flower eater eating red hibiscus. A flower eater can briefly slip away from all the rubbish when the petals sink in her mouth and shrink. Flowers are great in a salad. They are fun and transportive. Eating flowers is quietly rebellious.
I made this small piece on thick watercolour paper prepared for cyanotype, and masked out the hibiscus silhouettes. After washing the paper and drying it to its profound blue, I filled the white hibiscus with thin red acrylic paint. I then drew in with colour pencils the girl who is disappearing in her sensation of pleasure, and filled in the shadows with pastel.
I will ship the drawing with stiff backing for safety, wrapped in tissue paper. I may use recycled packaging.
