Full description

Crafted from a piece of history, this unique twist action ballpoint pen is made from reclaimed oak wood sourced from the RRS Discovery, the vessel that carried legendary explorers Robert Falcon Scott and Ernest Shackleton on their groundbreaking voyages to the Antarctic.

Due to the extremely finite nature of this timber, only a small number of these pens will ever exist.

A Brief History of HMS Discovery:

Launched in 1901, the RRS Discovery was the last traditional wooden three-masted ship to be built in Britain. She was purpose-built for Antarctic exploration, designed to withstand the crushing pressure of polar ice.

The National Antarctic Expedition (1901-1904): Under the command of Captain Robert Falcon Scott, the Discovery carried a crew of aspiring explorers, including a young Ernest Shackleton. This landmark expedition made significant geographical discoveries, including the Cape Crozier emperor penguin colony and the Polar Plateau via the western mountains. Scott, Shackleton, and Dr. Edward Wilson also set a new Furthest South record of 82 17'S.

The wood is obtained from a reputable dealer in the UK and a certificate of authenticity, provided by the supplier, will be included with the pen (see pictures). The metal pen parts are obtained from another UK provider, renowned worldwide for supplying premium pen parts for woodturners.

This is the actual pen you will receive and was hand turned in my workshop.
