Full description
This exquisite rollerball writing instrument is individually black palm wood is hand-turned by the shop owner, before hand pairing the dramatic, naturally contrasting tones of Black Palm wood with high-quality, precision-engineered metal components purchased from the renowned UK supplier, Beaufort Ink. This is the actual pen you will receive. Finished in very durable melamine satin lacquer, with final wax coating.
Black Palm wood, also known as Palmyra Palm (Borassus flabellifer), is not a traditional softwood or hardwood, but rather a monocot—more closely related to grasses and bamboo.
The wood features a dramatic aesthetic of dense, dark, nearly-black vascular fibers embedded in a lighter, tan-to-brown cellular structure. This pattern gives it a stunning, speckled, or "porcupine wood" look that is entirely unique. No two pens are exactly alike.
Native to tropical Asia and Africa, the Black Palm has been historically revered. In some cultures, particularly in India, it is known as the "celestial tree" (Katpaha taru) because every part of the tree has a use. The hard, durable outer wood of the trunk was traditionally used for everything from rafters and boat-building to durable walking sticks and tool handles. A free velvet travel pouch is included.
