I saved a large number of curtain sample books from landfill - a local business was about to throw them away. Some of the books had gloriously rich fabrics that just begged to be turned into Christmas Stockings.
Each stocking is unique as I only have one sample piece of each fabric - and I have used different combinations of trim, backings and linings to make each extra special.

Full description
Beautiful Bird of Paradise Christmas Stocking. Handmade with reclaimed curtain samples, this luxurious stocking is in the Arts and Crafts style with a plumed bird among leaf and flower motifs on a deep blue background. Trimmed with red vintage fabric and gold braid, and lightly padded, this unique stocking will suit both modern and traditional Christmas decor themes.
Elegant and practical, generous size means you can fit in lots of gifts.
One of a kind - each of my reclaimed textile Christmas Stockings are unique, and they each tell their own Zero Waste story.
The floral bird fabric is from ILIV's Arts and Crafts Fabric Collection. Printed onto 100 percent cotton, the colours are vibrant - pinks and reds and greens and yellows. I love how the larger weave of the fabric adds depth and texture, and gives the stocking a slightly faded vintage look.
I chose a woven material for the mock cuff and the back of this stocking - the subtle square weave effect and knobbly feel add even more texture and contrast. I think it's vintage upholstery fabric - I'm not sure what the material is, it feels a bit silky so it may be viscose.
Both the gold upholstery braid and the blue gosgrain ribbon are surplus from making stage costimes (Les Miserables and The Sound of Music), and I used offcuts of quilting cotton for the lining and quilt wadding to add a soft interlining layer.
Approximate size 44 cm by 30 cm, plus hanging ribbon.
