Keys and letters, of course, but maybe utensils, tea towels, condiments, phones, earphones, jewellery, whatever you want to hang from the brass or put on the shelf.
If you are of a certain age, you will remember the big leather tape measures brought out on sports days, with their elaborate brass mechanisms for winding the tape back in. These racks are all crafted from a solid block of reclaimed Brazilian mahogany, into which the winding mechanisms have been embedded, many with their embossed leather surrounds, to create a characterful and distinctive piece of retro home furnishing that will be a talking point for all your guests. Brass on mahogany is a classic look, evocative of our seafaring history; throw in some well worn embossed leather and I think you have a beautiful combination. Add to that the knowledge that these tape measures have had a long life measuring out the long jumps and javelin throws of British youth, and you have a beautiful and evocative addition to your home. Of course the actual tapes themselves don't go to waste, as can be seen from my door screens. I have used mirror slots as a hidden fixing and given them a clear wax finish.
Please note that all of the mechanisms have been glued in.
