Moths are really interesting creatures when you think about it. They are really important to our ecosystem as they are night pollinators, and more efficient than bees. They outnumber butterflies making up 90 percent of the know Lepidoptera species, some have impressive wingspans, like the Atlas moth, and some are quite colourful. My husband’s family have an interest in moths. His grandfather collected moths when he lived in various locations, including Malaysia. On his death the family donated the majority of the collect to the Natural History Museum. His father also has moth lamps and the kids enjoy looking at the different species of moths before letting they all go again.
