This has been a raw and unforgiving experience for me, and this work has been inspired by, and come from, a very dark and painful place. I’d like to hope this comes across in the pieces. My hope is that this work resonates with fellow sufferers of mental health difficulties.

Full description
Abstract and figurative sculpture.
Black ceramic stoneware.
16.1cm high x 10.6cm wide
This is the first piece in a series of sculptures focusing on the visual manifestation of mental health symptoms. my aim is create works that people can relate to and connect with emotionally. I used Ahraf Hana clay and glazed with a copper oxide Raku recipe. The base has been left unglazed and has burnt black. This glaze is porous and not food safe.
Figure1
Rising up out of a sludge of debilitating despair. No longer feeling like a person, or a human being, just a thing. Wailing in agony at the overwhelming pain of it all. Desperate for it to end.
Designed by James Verity in Kingston upon Hull
