Hi and welcome to The Old Button Sews, where I sell beautiful gifts designed and sewn by me. Special commissions are welcome - just click the "contact" button above.

I also sell craft kits and fabric supplies - and am moving them across to my new shop The Old Button Supplies - search for me on Folksy.

Transfer patterns were very popular in the 1930s and 40' s with little booklets often given away free with craft magazines. The simplicity of the outline allows the embroiderer freedom to interpret the motif in their own style.

You have 14 days, from receipt, to notify the seller if you wish to cancel your order or exchange an item.

Unless faulty, the following types of items are non-refundable: items that are personalised, bespoke or made-to-order to your specific requirements; items which deteriorate quickly (e.g. food), personal items sold with a hygiene seal (cosmetics, underwear) in instances where the seal is broken; digital items.

Please note that if your order is being posted outside mainland UK, you (or the recipient) may have to pay customs or VAT charges and a handling fee. The seller is not responsible for any charges or fees that may incur.

Full description

Embroider your own little patch of hollyhocks. Based on a vintage transfer pattern from Women's Own magazine from 1937, this kit is ideal for experienced embroiderers or confident beginners looking to develop their skills. Your finished picture can be simply displayed on the adhesive board supplied, or you can frame it in a hoop or a picture frame. You can also use it as a panel in a sewing project.

I have copied the pattern onto Stick and Stitch (soluble paper) meaning you don't need to trace or draw the pattern on to the fabric. Just stick it to the fabric and sew, then disolve and rinse it away in warm water at the end. The embroidery stitches used are Long-and-short, Blanket, French Knots and Split Stitch. Full instructions are provided, including how to mount/frame your picture.

Available in 3 colour combinations: lavender/pink, maroon/burgandy, and pink/red.

Your kit includes:

- Irish linen fabric

- "Stick and stitch" paper pattern

- embroidery thread in 7 colours (DMC stranded cotton)

- embroidery needle (John James)

- self adhesive mount board

- wool felt for backing

- stitch guide, and full tutorial instructions with colour photographs

OPTIONAL To prevent distortion and puckering, it is recommended to use an embroidery hoop (6 inch is best for this project). You can use your own hoop, or add one as an optional extra.

You will also need scissors to snip threads and trim fabric.
