I love making trinket boxes – using the crafting technique known as cartonnage!
I begin by measuring and cutting the various box pieces from mountboard and then carefully stretch polyester batting and fabric over them to create the sides, base and top, or lid, of the box. The exterior and interior surface pieces are then securely glued together and finally I hand stitch the side seam and base join to complete the box!

Burgundy floral fabric covered trinket box. Padded and fully lined with a removable lid.
Measures 6 inches (15.25 cm) square by 4.25 inches (10.5 cm) high.
The exterior is covered with a burgundy floral fabric and the interior surfaces are covered with a co-ordinating cream floral fabric. All fabrics are 100% cotton. All surfaces apart from the box base are padded.
Entirely handmade, this box would make a wonderful gift. It could be used to store all manner of items such as coasters (as shown in one of the photos), pairs of glasses, small remote controls...the list is endless! It would also be a perfect, reusable gift container.
