I am inspired particularly by textiles from the early to mid 20th century, especially the Bauhaus weavers. Art of the same period fires my creativity too, and this ceramic piece is a fusion of the two. I never make the same piece twice so whatever you choose, it will be completely unique to you.

A great gift, or just for you to complement your own home interior style, this vase or art piece is a one-off in black stoneware ceramic with lemon yellow and ochre themed abstract decoration and motifs. With its weathered, aged look, it’s a lovely setting for an informal bouquet from your garden or wildflowers and grasses.
I hand formed the rectangular shape in black stoneware clay and used yellow slip applied by hand to create a flaked look to the matt finish. I created texture by pressing a squared segment of end grain wood into the soft clay and used the sgraffito technique to etch informal squares here and there. Two olive green stripes go around the farm to complete the design. Inside I used an iron lustre glaze with a glossy finish in browns, black and blues. Slowly dried, and then fired twice with a final firing over 10 hours to 1185 degrees C, ceramics can’t be hurried in the making!
18 cm high x 6.5cm Images show front and back of the piece with different but complementary motifs.
