My Inspiration came from my love of wood and carving its profile with my trusty spoke shave and my late fathers American Stanley sweetheart chisel and his old carving gouge from the 1940’s and 1950’s. This whale gave me the connection to my forefathers in spirit, and in the feel of shaping this whale and the desire to carve wood to reduce stress and anxiety. The whale is also inspired by our living by the sea and sailing on the River Teign. To enhance this sculpture I have pyrographed a caption “Whale tale!”.

Full description
This hand carved and detailed Spalted Beech Whale sculpture on a brass stem attached to a Spalted Beech plinth, suitable as desktop/mantel piece. The wood is sourced in the West Country. They are cut to shape and then hand shaped using chisel, spoke shave and gouges and carving on some areas to create there features. Due to the nature of the wood it has been stabilized with environmentally friendly epoxy resin. Then sanded and finished with a microcrystalline wax and finished with a liquid wax. Every whale is documented and individually numbered, we send you this document of authenticity, with each purchase. This one is W01, pyrographed on the base.
Measurements: Length 22cm x 14.5cm height x 16cm width. Weight 410 grams
This whale is made from organic, natural, solid wood and will distort if put in water or to near a heat source, they will discolour if left in direct sunlight. This whale is not suitable for young children. To care for the whale, feed the wood with wax or similar when required. The item you see here is the one you will receive and I have aimed to provide dimensions which are as accurate as possible. Please note that wood is a natural product and can be affected by its environment.
