Heard a woodpecker whilst on one of my favourite Fenland walks, prompting me to search for images of this beautiful bird. It seemed appropriate to mount it on this piece of wood which a friend had given me. I like the way he is angled, looking as though he is clutching onto the tree trunk.

Full description
Stunning Great Spotted Woodpecker, depicted from hand-cut ceramic tiles. Unglazed, so a lovely matt finish, with white spots picked out with paint. This lovely bird is ungrouted - I use natural shadow lines to create the feathered look. It is set on an offcut of native hardwood ( possibly sycamore), and is free-standing. Approximate dimensions: 19cm x 13cm x 3cm (at widest points)
