Spoon rings are believed to have originated in the 17th century. Servants working in big houses sometimes stole a silver spoon to make a wedding ring. Such a crime could result in seven years of imprisonment overseas so was considered a sign of true love and devotion. Nowadays, silver spoons are often found in antique centres and are bought up by dealers who have them melted down as scrap. By turning some into silver rings, I feel as though I am saving a little bit of our heritage and hopefully the designs will live on for many more years.

Ring 73

This unusual ring is made for a beautiful solid silver coffee spoon. The spoon was originally hallmarked in Sheffield in 1910/11 and the makers mark appears to say E.E.T. but I have been unable to find out who that was. Maybe the perfect ring for someone who likes mysteries?! The original hallmark is on the inside of the band and the new hallmark is on the underside of the flattened bowl. The spoon was a little longer than most of the ones I use so I folded the bowl over before I shaped the ring, giving an unusual design which I love. The ring is a UK size X but I have a couple of others in slightly different sizes so please get in touch if you need another size.

As with all my rings, if when it arrives, the size isn’t right please get in touch so we can sort that out.
