Full description

This is a real rescue story. A rummage in a pile of furnishing fabric at the back of a shop revealed this glamorous floral cotton chintz called Polyanthus by Jean Monro Ltd. I think it may have been one of the first designs by the company and its copyright is dated to 1980. And so a lot of unpicking and preparation was needed to yield these two large panels, that must have once been a grand pelmet or something like that. It's got that sheeny glaze that you get from chintz and the pattern - which looks like auriculas to me - is stunning, romantic and absolutely of its era.

Each panel measures over three metres across and with a drop of 95cm. The panels comprise about three pieces which have been so perfectly pattern-matched and stitched together that you'd think they were one continuous length.

Gorgeous, rare and rescued.
