Full description

Four stunning vintage buttons in a beautiful shades of butterscotch and caramel. I believe these are Tagua or Corozo nut, often called vegetable ivory. With a lovely pressed design of swirly leaves on a background of fine lines, and a carved scoop shank.

I am not sure what era they are, vegetable ivory buttons were most popular between 1870 and 1920 before the advent of early plastics like cellulose and Bakelite. However they had a resurgence in the 1980s. So I am erring on the side of caution and calling them vintage not antique.

Two of the buttons are a golden brown shade, the other two are more creamy. Looking from the side, you can see a lovely crackling on the surface.

Just over an inch in diameter (3cm).

From my own Old Button collection.
