These summery surfite earrings feature triangular pieces of striped Cornish surfite which has been smoothly bezel set in sterling silver and finished off with sterling silver hooks. The surfite has diagonal stripes in shades of blue, aqua, mint and yellow. Some of the bands are opaque but most are translucent and the settings have an open back so light can shine through the surfite if you have short hair or wear it in an up do, this changes the appearance of the surfite as the colours of the translucent bands show up more. These dangly earrings measure 39mm (from top of the hook) by 16mm but surfite is lightweight compared to traditional stones so they are not heavy in the ears. Comes gift boxed.
Surfite is a build up of cured resin that forms during surfboard manufacture making these earrings a great gift for a surfer, this particular material came from a surfboard workshop in Cornwall. Normally I cut my own surfite but these came from a lapidarist buddy of mine - I thought the colour way to too cute to pass up. As a waste material it is common for surfite to have air bubbles in the layers which leads to the occasional dimple in the surface. Love the idea of surfite but want something different then drop me a message - I've got plenty of rough.
