Full description

These unusual earrings feature drops of Cornish surfite which has been bezel set in sterling silver and finished off with a simple sterling silver hook. The surfite has a swirly pattern with an 'eye' at the bottom, they are a well matched pair. There is a wave of white across the middle and lots of other colours especially shades of blue and green. Some of the colours are opaque but some are translucent, the earrings have an open back so will look different depending on the lighting and whether it is bouncing off the front of the earring or passing through it. These dangle earrings measure 47mm (from top of the hook) by 19mm, surfite is lightweight and I cut these fairly thin (4mm thick) to allow lots of light to pass through. Comes gift boxed.

The surfite comes from Cornwall and is a build up of cured resin that forms during the glassing stage of surfboard manufacture making these earrings a great gift for a surfer. I cut this particular material myself and you can see the original block and a work in progress shot in the photos (the rough isn't included). Where the last drips of resin were falling into the bucket stalagmites were forming and then being surround by subsequent layers of resin. The eye pattern is achieved by cutting through those stalagmites. The rough material came from Toy Factory Surfboards in Newquay, Cornwall.
