Spring inspired me to make this 'Sakura' tree rendition as it was a very long dull, damp wet winter this year, and I was awaiting the UK Spring! The pink beads make a lovely contrast to the black trunk and the purplish slate also enhances them.
This piece would look very good in any area where light shone on the glass beads and also on the slate, which has been glazed to give the same effect as when seawater changes the colour.

Full description

This tree is called 'Sakura' and the blossoms are made up of over 3,250 glass beads secured onto 0.8mm of black Aluminium wire. The trunk and roots are secured by two holes drilled through the beautiful Cornish slate. The slate has been glazed in order to appear as though the seawater has left it wet, in order to showcase it's amazing colour and shine. This piece took many hours of work due to the small size of the beads. Each floret needed to be created by slicing a section of the wire to fit the small holes. The Sakura flowers shine in the daylight as they are glass.
