A demonstration by The White Gecko Lounge brought this to my attention.

Full description

These cushion covers are hand stitched in a method that was first used on the Isle of Man, when, being an island, such things as scissors were few and far between, so the fabrics were nicked with a knife or teeth then ripped into strips. The measurements varied according to the size of the makers hand. The span of the hand, the length of the middle finger and the thumb are used even now to produce these covers and I found them quite addictive as a really good example of what is now called Slow Stitching.

I have 3 blues and cream and 1 pinks and cream in this listing and each measures 13” square with an envelope back, so a 14”” inner cushion would be required to complete this nice, decorative item for your home, which also has an interesting history.

Designed by Janet Williamson in my workroom at home in Liverpool.
