This garland consists of 9 different coloured Dorset knob style ‘fairy lights’ strung on a 3.3m length of black raffia with hanging loops at each end.
The Dorset knob ‘lights’ are worked in cotton thread over 25mm felt balls and finished with silver coloured metal hanging caps.
Dorset knobs buttons were one of the earlier buttons made in the Dorset button industry and were traditionally very small. These contemporary versions are worked in a similar way but on a much larger scale.
The first time I showed these as a garland it was commented that they look like fairy lights but of course don’t need batteries!
A kit is also available to have a go and make your own.
