I wanted to make some pieces that capture the wonder of this time of year, when the hawthorn leaves unfurl and the hedges are full of blossom. In Celtic mythology the hawthorn is associated with luck and protection.

Full description
This little hawthorn leaf was drawn by hand and then cut out from sterling silver sheet using a jeweller's saw. I've textured it with a hammer, filed and sanded it, and polished it by hand using a brass brush to give the silver a gentle glow. Then I've added a little freshwater pearl, reminiscent of a hawthorn flower bud, and two tiny raw emerald beads.
The silver is 100% recycled scrap silver from a reputable supplier, which has been recovered from the jewellery trade and IT and medical sectors. It therefore avoids the unnecessary negative environmental impact mining for new silver. It is fully traceable and exactly the same quality and purity as unrecycled sterling silver.
