Hi and welcome to The Old Button Sews, where I sell beautiful gifts designed and sewn by me.
The tulip motif I used was originally on a 1930s patchwork quilt, in a red and pink colourway on white, and was sewn in cotton using the traditional needle turn method.
I am experimenting with different colours, materials and techniques - this uses 100% wool felt with blanket stitch edging, in strong colours that feel more 1950s than 30s.
You have 14 days, from receipt, to notify the seller if you wish to cancel your order or exchange an item.
Unless faulty, the following types of items are non-refundable: items that are personalised, bespoke or made-to-order to your specific requirements; items which deteriorate quickly (e.g. food), personal items sold with a hygiene seal (cosmetics, underwear) in instances where the seal is broken; digital items.
Please note that if your order is being posted outside mainland UK, you (or the recipient) may have to pay customs or VAT charges and a handling fee. The seller is not responsible for any charges or fees that may incur.
A modern interpretation of a vintage patchwork quilt block from the 1930s, my mini quilt wall hanging features 3 tulips in a striking art deco motif. I chose striking pinks and reds for my tulips, with blue-green leaves that co-ordinate beautifully with the aqua background. A simple but elegant fabric art picture, that will look as good in the lounge or bedroom as it will in the nursery.
I cut each appliqué piece by hand in 100% wool felt, and hand embroider them to a background panel made from 100% cotton quilting cotton - the simple hatch reminds me of formica topped kitchen tables of the 50s - we have one that has been handed down our family.
The stitching is blanket stitch edging - the leaves are sewn with a co-ordinating colour thread so the linear lines are maintained, but flipped the colours on the petals for more contrast.
Finally, the picture is interlined with bamboo wadding and backed with cotton calico. The hanging thread is a pale pink wool yarn which suits the vintage feel - this can be swopped for a synthetic cord if preferred.
Also available as a mini cushion, and also as a Sew-it-Yourself kit - see other listings.
Approximately 8 inches square (20 by 20 cm).
Care: brush to remove dust, damp sponge clean
