I wanted to create a set of illustrations that showcased species of coastal bird found locally along the North Northumberland coast, including a Cormorant, Brent Geese, Arctic Terns, a Purple sandpiper, an Eider duck, an Oystercatcher and Puffins. Each illustration was hand-painted in watercolour with pen detailing and then labels were handwritten in a loose, calligraphic style. The hand-drawn map cartouche features two of the places these birds can be seen - the Farne Islands and the Holy Island of Lindisfarne. Part of my Coastal Birds of North Northumberland collection.
