Inspiration

When I was once at my stall in Ludlow market on a grey rainy day, I spotted a rather bedraggled pigeon sat atop the blue and white canopy of my stall. I tried to grab a picture but it flew off. I immediately knew I wanted to recreate the scene as a painting. Pigeons are such a feature of Ludlow market square, just as they are in many towns and cities throughout the world. Ludlow is a tourist destination with beautiful old buildings and picturesque views .In the Summer we are visited by Swifts ( another painting in waiting). For now though I wanted to offer a different Ludlow character. The humble market square pigeon. On this particular day the grey sky almost matched the pigeons colours. I wanted to get that stormy feeling into the painting.
A few days later I was able to photograph another Pigeon in Ludlow. This time sitting on a brick wall. I used this image as a reference for my painting.
